"The Future of Radio in the Car..."

Posted on November 5, 2011 | Leave a comment

...is NOT music.
The Future of Radio in the Car In-car Internet is NOT "the future."
It's now! I've got that cord many listeners have. Plug one end into
what-we-used-to-call "the cigarette lighter;" plug the other end into
iPhone or iPod or whatever, and find a quiet FM channel. THAT'S "music
radio" in-car now.
What IS the future of car radio? That was my presentation at the LA
Talkers Regional Forum. Read a summary in my November newsletter. And
download research on my homepage.

BOTH kinds of radio suffer.

Posted on October 5, 2011 | Leave a comment

In 2003, The Dixie Chicks' "Travelin' Soldier" was #1 on the Country
charts one day...then gone from radio the next, after they voiced
disapproval of President Bush and the Iraq invasion. Now, Hank Williams
Jr. compares President Obama to Adolph Hitler, and ESPN yanks his
Monday Night Football theme.
hank- Watch:
On MSNBC's "The Ed Show," HC explains how Talk Radio AND music radio
suffer from blacklisting and censorship...and cautions about the clout
that radio's mega-owners now wield.

DAY ONE: FM Talk Flip: WMAL/Washington

Posted on September 19, 2011 | 1 Comment

No sooner was the ink dry on Cumulus' Citadel takeover than News/Talk
WMAL (AM) began simulcasting on sister 105.9 FM WVRX. As
GMs-of-simulcasters-elsewhere have done in such announcements, WMAL's
Jeff Boden noted-the-obvious: "There are many potential listeners who
never listen on AM, and we are now making programs of wide interest
available to the largest possible audience."
Prediction: Instant impact...if the change is promoted, to those in
105.9's footprint.

Everyone knows it's windy.

Weather Channel The Weather Channel knows how to hold attention...do
you?
What radio can learn from Irene TV coverage:
Distill and repeat quotable factoids like these, which rotated
at-the-bottom-of-the-screen on MSNBC pre-dawn that Saturday:

Jetblue Airways to cancel 800 flights between Sat. and Sun.
MLK Memorial event postponed
Cruises, NFL & MLB games canceled
Gov. Purdue: We are very concerned about devastation in NC.
Category 1 storm expected to hit NC coast this morning.
E. Coast moves out ahead of the storm.
Hurricane warning in effect from NC to MA.
More than 2 million people ordered to move to safer areas.
Pres. Obama signs emergency declaration for FEMA assistance.
More than 80,000 without power in NC.
Irene expected to make landfall around 8AM-10AM ET in NC
All NY airports to close noon Sunday.
Evacuation orders given for NC, VA, MD, DE, NJ and NY
Material this ear-catching could cause diary-keepers to over-report,
and sure would keep-'em-tuned in PPM markets.

The MOST important thing we learn from PPM?

Posted on July 24, 2011 | Leave a comment

faster- Attention is REAL scarce.
Advertising messages like the one pictured here aren't crafted
casually, and represent the output of research which seems to confirm
the obvious: People are now THAT mentally "busy."
So everything we tell `em -- commercial copy we craft, station promo
language, local programming content -- needs to be "at the speed of
life." It's dangerous to assume that listeners are focused on us. We
need to fit-into-THEIR-lives.

Every effort we make to say-what-we're-saying in-terms-of
what-it-means-to-them, and to say it efficiently, WILL be rewarded.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using AZ.COM:

Enter your search keyword(s) into the search input field of http://az.com
The zorgium specific results appear in the right hand margin.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using your favorite search engine:

Enter your search keyword(s) and the keyword "zorgium" into the search input field of http://bing.com, http://yahoo.com or http://google.com.

Heads up: There's an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms. Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.

ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.

DISCLAIMER: Zorgium is a free world-wide-web engine from AZ.COM. You may use it, but by doing so you agree that your use of other people's information discovered via our website is entirely your responsibility. Enjoy!
